President Donald Trump hit a home run when he nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. The President made good on perhaps his most important campaign promise. Constitutional conservatives should be proud of him for doing so.
In selecting Judge Gorsuch, the President has picked a jurist in the mold of the late Justice Antonin Scalia. Gorsuch is one of the finest legal minds in America today; a man with impeccable credentials and qualifications; and, perhaps most importantly, a staunch defender of the rule of law.
Judge Gorsuch gave us a peek into his judicial philosophy when he said upon his appointment, “It is for Congress, and not the courts, to write new laws.” That is precisely the kind of judicial restraint and reverence for the Constitution that is needed on the Supreme Court.
Some Democrats want to play politics with this appointment. They shouldn’t. Our leaders in Washington need to come together to ensure that this good man takes his rightful place on the highest court in the land without delay.
