The unfortunate serial failures in the rollout of COVID vaccinations remind us again of the inherent inability of government to function efficiently because politics enters into play. Every citizen is—by Constitutional design—of equal standing in the eyes of the law. While of course the government can prioritize vaccine distribution by category of risk, these simple distinctions—people over 65 and those with underlying conditions—should have led to a self-policing and easy-to-administer system.
Yes, some would have fraudulently taken of this of self-policing. But a bit of fraud ought to be tolerated as we keep our eye on the greater good.
Operation Warp Speed delivered the vaccines to state and local governments as our federal system is designed to do. The failures in distribution lies squarely on the shoulders of state and local officials.
Citizens should note and long remember: Even with months to prepare—state and local government failed.
How much better would it have been to trust a free people to make responsible decisions.
