Michael Medved: “The Choosing People” of Passover

Opioid

As Jewish people around the world celebrate Passover, it’s worth recalling an often-ignored aspect of the Exodus story. The Midrash, a nearly-2,000-year-old collection of elucidations of the Biblical text, suggests most of the Hebrew slaves, despite the miracles around them, felt too fearful to follow Moses out of Egypt. In this sense, “the people of choice” described in the Bible were as much a choosing people as a chosen people. Even at the Red Sea, Midrashic sources say that God only split the sea once the Jewish people took the first courageous steps into the water. In this sense, and in this season, God can still perform miracles but we must partner with Him in the process.

This is also true for the Easter message of salvation and redemption, isn’t it? Liberation and salvation are gifts from God. But it’s up to human beings to take the first steps.

Report: Obama Knew Assad Kept Chemical Weapons

Assad

From the story:  A former Obama official acknowledged Sunday that the U.S. “always knew” an agreement with Syrian President Bashar Assad did not clear all chemical weapons out of Syria, despite the fact that the administration touted the deal as an unequivocal success at the time (Washington Examiner). Remember that PolitiFact rating of “mostly true” given to John Kerry’s claim that they got 100 percent of the chemical weapons out of Syria?  Retracted (IJR).  Hugh Hewitt had a recent run-in with PolitiFact (Daily Caller).

Albert Mohler: Syria Crosses The Red Line

Billy Graham

The U.S. sent an unmistakable signal Thursday night—and it was sent late, and it was sent in the form of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from two U.S. Navy destroyers in the Mediterranean sea. They were fired at the very same Syrian air base from which it is now believed the Syrian government had sent an attack on its own people, an attack in the form of chemical weapons—identified as sarin nerve gas—killing upwards of 80 people.

Sarin gas is banned by every civilized nation and international treaty, and the use of it is considered a war crime.

In a statement he made to the American people late Thursday night, President Trump said the strike was in the vital national security interest of the United States. He went on to say,

“We ask for God’s wisdom as we face the challenge of our very troubled world.”

Will this military action bring an end to the Syrian civil war? Almost assuredly not. Will it make a difference? As the President said, we must pray so.

Owen Strachan: The Marital Scandal Of Vice President Pence

double standard, parental, generosity and respect. Vice President Pence

Somehow this became another of the major scandals in DC today: Vice President Pence protects his marriage. Recently, the Washington Post reminded readers that the VP does not eat alone with a woman who is not his wife …. and it sparked firestorm on Twitter. One journalist said Pence believes that “women shouldn’t be able to exist in public without a chaperone.” Many such responses followed.

Let’s all take a deep breath in our favorite safe space. Mike Pence has employed and met with many women over his long career of public service. He isn’t anti-woman. He’s pro-woman. He loves his wife, he wants to protect his family, and he wants to protect the women he works with. Mike Pence should be commended for his self-discipline born from his Christian faith.

The weirdest folks in today’s culture aren’t sexually wild; they’re those who hold fast to their spouse. If that lands you in the penalty box, so be it.

Honor and fidelity will always be more important than Millennial hot-takes on social media.

Albert Mohler: Yet Another Lesson From California

Billy Graham

The Attorney General of California recently announced that he is filing 15 felony counts against the two undercover filmmakers from the Center for Medical Progress who have exposed Planned Parenthood in a series of videos.

David French, writing at National Review, points out that this is a case of selective prosecution. Back in 2014, a group known as Mercy for Animals released an undercover video that showed widespread animal abuse, they claimed, and cruelty at one of the largest duck farms in California. The state responded by investigating the farm. Apparently, in California, the lives of ducks are more important than the lives of unborn human beings.

The reality is that California is undeniably guilty of selective enforcement. It is using a law against these two activists that is not used against others in a similar situation.

For these two journalists and for the larger pro-life movement, at least in the state of California, the trial is only beginning.
