Dan Proft: 2020: A Choice Between Two Bernies

In a sense, the 2020 race is shaping up as a choice between two Bernies—a right Bernie and a left Bernie.

Do you like the Capitalist Bernie or the Bolshevik Bernie?

These two Bernies have neatly defined the choice in 2020.

On the one hand is Home Depot founder, the creator of a half-million jobs, and billionaire Bernie Marcus who is spending his golden years giving away his money to worthy causes.

On the other hand is Soviet devotee Sen. Bernie Sanders who’s spending his golden years the same way he spent his formative ones—giving away other people’s money.

Bernie Marcus is an unabashed Trump supporter undeterred by threats of a Home Depot boycott by Marxist mobsters.

Bernie Sanders is an unrepentant redistributionist who said on “Meet the Press” recently his goal is “to make the poor richer and the rich poorer.”

Bernie Marcus doesn’t believe helping people is a zero-sum proposition. Bernie Sanders believes everything should be free except freedom.

Which Bernie will you support in 2020?

Dan Proft: The Intolerable Cruelty of Lawless Immigration

President Trump was right to declare in his State of the Union Address that the tolerance of the ruling elites’ for illegal immigration is not compassionate but cruel.

The Fortune 500 C-suite GOP donors and the open borders/Democrat Socialist crowd practice similar forms of sentimental barbarism: They both treat illegal immigrants inhumanely—as the means to their short-term ends.

For the C-suite GOP donor, the illegal immigrant is useful economically—reducing labor cost.

For the wild-eyed Marxist, the illegal immigrant is useful politically—increasing the cadre of reliable voters.

Both cohorts demagogue their respective parties with rhetoric that frightens voters away from the sort of compromise Trump proffered—a message consistent that of the Statue of Liberty.

A virtuous immigration policy puts a welcome mat in front of our golden door and opens it to new Americans who will serve the long-term interests of America for generations to come.

Albert Mohler: Robert Mugabe – An Experiment Of The Left

Billy Graham

Robert Mugabe, the strongman of Zimbabwe for the last 37 years, has finally fallen from power. Although he was seen as a liberator when he toppled the government of Rhodesia in 1980, he quickly became the de facto dictator, ultimately killing 20,000 people from an opposing tribe.

Several Western universities awarded honorary degrees to Mugabe in the mid ’80s, only to rescind them when his genocide became apparent.

Bret Stephens of the Wall Street Journal rightly affirms that the Left must be held to account. Stephens says, “Zimbabwe’s tragedy is just a fuller version of a post-colonial story of disastrous ideological experiments accompanied by foreigners who cheered those experiments and then looked the other way when they failed. The world’s poorest countries deserve better than to be the petri dish for Western experts who know too little and a field of fantasy for Western progressives who dream too much.”

On that story, Bret Stephens deserves to have the last word.
