Michael Medved: A “One State Solution” Means No Safe Haven

Representative Rashida Tlaib, Democrat of Michigan, says “I want a safe haven for Jews.”

The question she hasn’t been asked and cannot answer is: where do you think that “safe haven” should be? She obviously doesn’t think it should be in Israel, the ancestral home of the Jewish people, since she favors the so-called “One State Solution”, meaning the end of any Jewish State in the Middle East.

The idea that any Arab Palestinian state could provide a “safe haven” for Jews or other non-Muslims is ridiculous, considering the terrible record in treatment of Jews, Christians and other minorities in all of the 22 existing Arab Muslim states.

If her Democratic colleagues continue to defend and excuse Tlaib’s incoherent extremism, then all voters who care about Israel’s security should work to end the Democratic House majority that shamelessly sanctions extremism.

Michael Medved: No Two Sides on Gaza Rockets

The old-saying “there are two sides to every argument” does not apply to violent exchanges between Israel and the Gaza terrorists of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Without provocation or purpose, Palestinian terrorists launched 690 rockets against Israel, striking schools and hospitals while murdering four civilians.

Israel responded with intense air strikes, aimed at military targets and militant leadership. The only public explanation for Palestinian attacks involved the desire to disrupt Israeli Independence Day and the Eurovision song competition in Tel Aviv.

Nevertheless, U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib sympathized with such random acts of destruction, asking: “When will the world stop dehumanizing our Palestinian people who just want to be free?”

For 14 years, residents of Gaza have been totally “free” of Israeli rule and all Jewish settlements and yet they somehow believe that firing rockets at innocent Israelis counts as brave and productive.

It’s not just insanity, it’s self-destructive evil.

Michael Medved: Democrats: Badly Out of the Mainstream on Israel

Marijuana

A survey of opinion on the Middle East brings good news to Israel and bad news for Democrats. The Pew Center asked the question: “In the dispute between Israel and the Palestinians, who do you sympathize with?” Among every gender, every racial or religious group, every age or educational level, Americans strongly sided with Israelis.

Only one political group—self-identified Democrats—split nearly evenly between sympathies for Israel and the Palestinians—with 27 percent with the Jewish state, 26 percent for the Palestinians.

By contrast, Republicans backed Israeli by a lopsided ratio of 13 to 1, while Independents favored the Jewish state by nearly 3 to 1. What puts Democrats so badly out of the mainstream?

In part, it’s the moral relativism that’s infected contemporary liberalism, leaving the left reluctant ever to say one side’s right and the other’s wrong. Moreover, Israelis and Americans share a reverence for three institutions many liberals instinctively distrust: the military, business and traditional faith.
