Michael Medved: Inconvenient Truths on Tlaib’s Family and the Israeli “Occupation”

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib previously embarrassed herself by falsifying the history of the Middle East—suggesting Palestinians provided a “welcoming haven” for Jewish refugees during the Holocaust.

But every historian acknowledges that local Arab leaders responded to Jewish refugees with murderous attacks, ferocious hatred and unwavering opposition. Now, Tlaib is at it again—with distorted portrayals of her own family history as well the general history of her people.

Israel had nothing to do with her father and grandfather leaving the Middle East: her grandfather fled for Brazil in the 1930s, before Israel was even established. Her late father immigrated to Nicaragua in the early ’60s, when the West Bank and East Jerusalem were still ruled by Arab Jordan, not Israel.

While Tlaib emphasizes the suffering of her family under the so-called “occupation,” it’s worth noting that two generations had already found homes in America before that alleged occupation even began.

Michael Medved: A “One State Solution” Means No Safe Haven

Representative Rashida Tlaib, Democrat of Michigan, says “I want a safe haven for Jews.”

The question she hasn’t been asked and cannot answer is: where do you think that “safe haven” should be? She obviously doesn’t think it should be in Israel, the ancestral home of the Jewish people, since she favors the so-called “One State Solution”, meaning the end of any Jewish State in the Middle East.

The idea that any Arab Palestinian state could provide a “safe haven” for Jews or other non-Muslims is ridiculous, considering the terrible record in treatment of Jews, Christians and other minorities in all of the 22 existing Arab Muslim states.

If her Democratic colleagues continue to defend and excuse Tlaib’s incoherent extremism, then all voters who care about Israel’s security should work to end the Democratic House majority that shamelessly sanctions extremism.

Michael Medved: Obsessive Bigotry Threatens the Hater, Along With the Hated

Those in the grip of an obsessive, irrational hatred can’t keep themselves from expressing it, even when they damage their own interests in the process.

For Louis Farrakhan, recently kicked off of Facebook for his bigotry, it clearly hurt him to denounce “satanic Jews” to a Catholic congregation in his latest unhinged diatribe.

For Rashida Tlaib, saying she always gets “kind of a calming feeling” when she thinks of the Holocaust, and suggesting that Palestinians created a “safe haven” for Jews in the Middle East, obviously undermined her already shaky position with her House colleagues. For Tlaib, she wasn’t even asked about the Holocaust, but brought it up in the context of her one-state opposition to any Jewish homeland, anywhere on earth.

Irrational anti-Semitic outbursts not only threaten Jewish people, but simultaneously menace the blighted obsessives who can’t stop themselves from uttering them.

Michael Medved: Rep. Tlaib’s Breathtaking Ignorance and Incoherence

Representative Rashida Tlaib, Democrat of Michigan, has delivered some of the most ignorant and incoherent statements ever made about the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

She claims that the re-emergence of the Jewish State “was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews” and then adds “and I love the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians, that provided that right.”

Of course, this ignores the genocidal riots by Palestinians that killed thousands of Jewish civilians in the 1920s and ’30s. Palestinians never “provided” a safe haven for Jews, but in fact supported Nazis and encouraged the Holocaust, while doing their level best to shut all routes of escape from Hitler’s inferno.

What’s most striking about Representative Tlaib’s indefensible, anti-Semitic gibberish isn’t its malevolence but, rather, its breathtaking stupidity.

Michael Medved: No Two Sides on Gaza Rockets

The old-saying “there are two sides to every argument” does not apply to violent exchanges between Israel and the Gaza terrorists of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Without provocation or purpose, Palestinian terrorists launched 690 rockets against Israel, striking schools and hospitals while murdering four civilians.

Israel responded with intense air strikes, aimed at military targets and militant leadership. The only public explanation for Palestinian attacks involved the desire to disrupt Israeli Independence Day and the Eurovision song competition in Tel Aviv.

Nevertheless, U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib sympathized with such random acts of destruction, asking: “When will the world stop dehumanizing our Palestinian people who just want to be free?”

For 14 years, residents of Gaza have been totally “free” of Israeli rule and all Jewish settlements and yet they somehow believe that firing rockets at innocent Israelis counts as brave and productive.

It’s not just insanity, it’s self-destructive evil.
